In the first commercial deal between an author and the police, a £9,000 Hyundai Getz will soon be patrolling the streets of Sussex, embellished on all four sides with the name of Peter James.
His series of Brighton-based Roy Grace novels has sold more than three million copies worldwide and been translated into 30 languages.
Now Mr James and his publishers Pan Macmillan have agreed to sponsor the Brighton and Hove policing division’s new five-door saloon.
While I wouldn't go so far as to expect LAPD patrol cars to be sponsored by Michael Connelly anytime soon, I suspect more than a few enterprising writers with money to burn might be wondering how to co-opt this idea for themselves...”
Pour ceux qui ne parlent pas du tout le patois de là-bas, je résume : l’écrivain Peter James a sponsorisé l’achat d’une bagnole aux flics de son bled, en échange d’avoir son nom sur les ailes de la dite voiture !
Comme j’ai eu un peu de mal à y croire, j’ai vérifié, c’est vrai ! Vérification là !!
Gageons que notre gouvernement de progrès et d’avenir, piqué au vif de n’avoir pas pensé le premier à cette manière pourtant évidente et naturelle d’accentuer la privatisation de nos forces de l’ordre et de faire baisser les impôts qui écrasent nos concitoyens aura à cœur de lancer rapidement un appel d’offre pour embellir également les portières de nos pandores.
